A final sunny day, but lots colder! It was only 45 to start our day from Elko. As on our previous stops here, Elko looks like a vibrant little town. The 270 miles from here to home has some interesting features.
After a long stretch of barren, high desert we come to the Wild Horse Reservoir and recreation area. They've put up some new cabins for rent and there are lots of campsites. The reservoir, in this light anyway, is SO blue! From the top of the dam one winds down through the Owyhee River canyon and onto the Indian reservation then onto some very fertile agricultural land around Grand View. Then there's the CJ Strike Reservoir and a recreation area called "Cove". Again, lots if nice looking campsites and more BLUE water!
Our plan for the day was to stop for an early dinner at The Orchard House in Marsing. But when we got there at 3:15 we found that it closes at 3:00. Darn! So, we ended up at the Cracker Barrel in Nampa. After a brief stop at Janet's in Star, we arrived home around 6:00 to Max, who complained that he was starving, but otherwise glad to see us!
The total trip was 2700 miles. The weather was absolutely perfect the whole time. In fact, I don't think we ever even saw a cloud! The highlights were Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon, Valley of Fire and, of course, Death Valley.
The coronavirus pandemic is still raging. In fact, Idaho is really bad. So we guess we'll be staying home for awhile.
