Wednesday October 14 Heading Home via Elko

We left Death Valley this morning for the long trek home. We'll go 420 miles to Elko. We drove for an hour to Beatty and had breakfast at Denny's, located way in the back of a casino! The weather continues to be excellent! While there we fueled up and went to the car wash to get rid of all that awful dust and dirt we accumulated from our Titus Canyon drive,

Nevada is miles and miles of bleak beauty! We went from Beatty, to Tonapah, to Austin to Elko. The only interesting drive was going over a 7500 ft pass and steeply down into the town of Austin, which looks pretty bleak, too.

After we checked in to our Quality Inn, we had a fine dinner at The Stockman, an old hotel & casino that we tend to visit every time we come through here - to eat, not gamble!

The car only got 29 MPG today. It doesn't like spending the day at 80 MPH!

We have about 280 miles tomorrow to home.
